Building a Virtual Career: My Journey from Factory Work to Freelance

My professional journey began in 2004 when I worked as a Quality Control staff at MC Nova Apparel, a factory located in Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac. I was just 21 years old at the time. Life was simple—work during the day and return to my boarding house after my shift. This routine went on for a year before I decided to return home to Cebu in hopes of finding better opportunities.

Not long after, I was hired as a purchasing staff member at a company in Lagtang, where I stayed for almost six years.

Although I gained valuable experience, I felt the need to grow professionally and financially. That led me to pursue a new role as a Purchasing Supervisor at a company in Mabolo, Cebu City. I worked there for nearly five years and was genuinely happy with my position.

However, in early 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic escalated, I made a difficult but necessary decision to resign. As a mother, my priority was to keep my family safe. I decided to explore remote work opportunities to balance career and home responsibilities.

Transitioning into remote work wasn’t easy, especially without experience in the virtual field. For almost three years, I focused on being a full-time mom while continuously seeking ways to upskill.

Then I came across an ad on Facebook for the School of Virtual Assistance (SOVA), a platform dedicated to training individuals like me who wanted to shift to remote work. Enrolling in SOVA has been a game-changer. I am still learning from using modern tools to mastering essential software for virtual assistance.

Now, as a proud trainee of SOVA, I am confident and excited about the next chapter. I am eager to apply what I’ve learned and start my career as a Virtual Assistant. With my strong background in purchasing and administration work, and my newly acquired digital skills. I am ready to take on the virtual world.
